因記憶體需求上升，今年(2021年)全球半導體銷售上升、將創下歷史新高紀錄，且明年(2022年)有望續創新猷。日本電子情報技術產業協會(JEITA)11月30日發布新聞稿指出，根據世界半導體貿易統計協會(WSTS)最新公佈的預測報告顯示，因新冠肺炎(COVID-19)疫情推升居家辦公線上教學所需的PC、平板需求增加，遊戲機需求擴大，且智慧手機5G化，網路數據通訊量呈現飛躍性增長、雲端服務等基礎設施的設備投資需求攀升，加上車用/產業用需求擴大，提振記憶體、邏輯需求超旺，因此今年(2021年)全球半導體銷售額預估將年增25.6%至5,529.61億美元、優於前次(2021年6月)預估的5,272.23億美元(年增19.7%)，年銷售額將遠超2018年的4,687億美元、創下歷史新高紀錄。就產品種類來看，2021年晶片(IC)全球銷售額預估將年增27.6%至4,608.41億美元、將優於前次預估的4,363.72億美元(年增20.8%)；離散元件(discrete)預估將年增26.4%至301.0億美元、LED等光電元件(Optoelectronics)將年增7.0%至432.29億美元、感測器將年增25.6%至187.91億美元。
