台積電將最先進的5奈米製程晶圓技術移植到美國廠房
在2020年5月，台積電宣佈斥資120億美元，在美國亞利桑那州鳳凰城設廠。近日，美國媒體CNBC獨家參訪該廠，據台積電主管表示，台積電將台灣的所有成功經驗移植到美國，為全美最先進的5奈米製程晶圓廠。CNBC報導，台積電的亞利桑那州廠定於2024年投產5奈米晶片，月產能約20,000 片。TSMC Arizona執行長暨總經理Rick Cassidy向CNBC介紹：「這些晶片將用在許多不同地方，例如中央處理器(CPU)、圖形處理器(GPU)、基礎設施處理器(IPU)等，用於智慧型手機。」報導指出， 半導體技術起源於美國，但數十年來，全球半導體業重心持續流向亞洲。據國際半導體產業協會(SEMI)估計，2020年亞洲晶片產能佔全球79%，光是台積電就佔了全球產能的24%，而美國晶片產能僅佔全球12%，遠低於1990年的37%。
