因中國本土疫情多點爆發，上海市實施「分區分批」封城，Tesla上海廠自3月28日起停工，原定4月1日復工。但據外媒消息指出，Tesla上海廠已將停工期延長至少1天，無法按計畫在4月1日復工。路透社、彭博社報導，上海市政府27日晚間突然宣佈，以黃浦江為界，分兩階段封控，先浦東後浦西，所有企業實施封閉生產或居家辦公。30日深夜，上海官方又宣佈實施「全域靜態管理」，要求民眾「人不流動、足不出戶」，藉此達成全面清零。Tesla上海廠位於浦東新區臨港產業區，為第一批實施封控的區域，從28日凌晨5時開始封城，同時進行大規模核酸篩查，原定4月1日凌晨5時解封。據路透社報導，Tesla上海廠已發出內部通知，取消4月1日及2日的生產計畫。中國是Tesla的第二大市場，因此上海廠對Tesla至關重要，同時是德國、日本等重要海外市場的出口基地。根據中國乘用車市場信息聯席會(CPCA)的數據，Tesla上海廠2月批發銷量達56,515輛，其中33,315輛用於出口。
