在2015年，香港金融管理局根據巴塞爾銀行監管委員會發出的一套原則性框架為指標，公佈有關本地系統重要性認可機構（D-SIB）的本地指標，據金管局網頁簡介，被指定為D-SIB的認可機構是具系統重要性的銀行（SIB），意思是一旦這些銀行陷入困境或倒閉，會對金融體系以至更廣泛的經濟造成重大影響的銀行。
金管局:東亞(00023)不再被識別為具本地系統重要性認可機構
直到2021年12月24日為止，香港金融管理局一共給予6間銀行該頭銜；分別是位於第四組別的HSBC，第二組別的中國銀行 (香港)及恒生銀行，第一組別的渣打銀行 (香港)和中國工商銀行（亞洲）。以及東亞銀行，但金管局表示，根據年度評估結果，考慮到東亞銀行 (0023.HK) 相對其他機構的系統重要性，該銀行在是次評估不再被識別為D-SIB。最新名單於明年1月1日生效，被指定為D-SIB的認可機構有5間，包括香港上海滙豐銀行、中銀香港(02388)、渣打銀行(香港)、恒生銀行(00011)及中國工商銀行亞洲。
