Facebook 將改名為「Meta」
Facebook 執行長馬克·朱克伯格(Mark Zuckerberg)週四(10月28日)在年度「Connect」開發商大會宣布，公司計畫改名為「Meta」，反映「元宇宙」(metaverse)的成長商機。華爾街日報、CNBC報導，祖克柏表示，元宇宙是吸引年輕族群的關鍵，「未來我希望我們的公司能被視為一家專注元宇宙的企業。」他透露，Meta將涵蓋臉書、Instagram、WhatsApp等旗下產品。朱克伯格說，人類從桌上型電腦進化至網路及手機，從文字進化至相片、影片，但這並非終點。「我們相信，行動網路將交棒給元宇宙。」朱克伯格並表示，「meta」源自希臘文，意思是「超越」(beyond)。對他而言，這象徵建設是永無止境的。朱克伯格透露，該公司正在打造一個元宇宙社交平台，名稱為「Horizon」，其beta測試版已於去(2020)年問世。臉書也在努力為「Messenger」電話添加虛擬實境功能，讓人們輕鬆探索虛擬世界、或一同參與遊戲，另外還會替Horizon平台及辦公室相關功能打造市集。
